Take One, Pass It On :: Recap

It's the last day of November, which means it's also the last day of Take One, Pass It On! (Special thanks to Sarah for hosting TOPIO 2.0) While I really do enjoy challenges like these, I'm glad to have some of my autonomy back. I came up with a bunch of new outfits during the month, but couldn't wear them unless I planned a few days ahead of what piece to pass on for what day to be able to wear that outfit. Too much thought! I did get to wear some neglected pieces, though, so I'm happy for that.

Here's a recap of my month of TOPIO...

Pass It On :: Striped Dress

I have a confession to make. I went shopping this past weekend. On Wednesday, I turned in a working draft of my independent project, and I felt I deserved a treat. This scarf was one of my treats. I told my friend earlier that day that my scarf collection is predominantly pinks and purples and prints, and I would really love a vibrant blue or turquoise scarf. I didn't plan to step into J. Crew Factory buuut I changed my mind and asked for five minutes. That's when I saw this pretty blue thing in the clearance section. I think this is the perfect draft submission treat. Since then, I've written an additional 3,000 words, bumping the draft to 30 pages (and counting!). Does that mean it's time for another treat?

Pass It On :: Fan Necklace

I hate to be that girl that always talks about the weather... buuut I really could do without the 30 degree weather. This weekend, I played two soccer games outside, and I had to bundle up like crazy (six layers?!). One thing I do enjoy about the weather, however, is the opportunities for layering (especially off the soccer field). If I can put a collared shirt under something, I will. See outfit below.

Pass It On :: Gingham Shirt

You know life is hectic when it takes two days to post an outfit. I wore this outfit on Friday. (Sorry for the terrible photo quality.) I've had a military jacket on my wishlist for this entire year, and I almost bought this one from Old Navy, but just couldn't.. probably because I already have a safari jacket. Yeah, the jackets have their significant differences, but the thing is, any way I would wear one jacket, I could probably wear the other one in that same way. Take this outfit, for example. I was inspired by this pin, and thought "If only I actually had a military jacket..." But I stopped myself when I realized I could make it work with my safari jacket. How have you made things work lately?

Pass It On :: Scout Chinos

Today I am linking up with Heather for Pinned it and Did it and Bri for Third Thursday Threads: animal print. I'm really trying to wear the things I love most, rather than wearing everything just for the sake of wearing it. (I'll save those clothes for the next time I do No Longer Neglected.) I love this vest, and love when Pinterest tells me how to wear it. This pin {via} and this pin {via} inspired today's outfit.

Pass It On :: Olive Blouse

I generally prefer to try to dress up at least a little bit for when I teach. Not so much when I'm up until 2:30am working on a paper. I decided to go for something much more comfortable and laid back today instead. I chose the shirt for Take One, Pass It On and selected the pants because they are awesome. I still love that I got them for $10. If only pants could always cost $10...

Pass It On :: Berry Flats

Just about every time I layer, I have a compulsion to title the post "adventures in layering". Good thing Take One, Pass It On is taking care of my post titles for this month! But seriously. I was planning on just wearing this blazer over the blouse, but it felt boring. I thought a black sweater would do the trick, but I don't actually have a black sweater! I do have a black longsleeve tee, though. Have you ever layered a longsleeve tee over a blouse or shirt?

Pass It On :: Red Belt

Do you have a red skinny belt? How often do you wear it? When Inge told me that she has been neglecting her red belt, I realized that I had been, too! I decided that I would make it today's Take One, Pass It On item. I wore this belt on Friday with my new sweet cranberry flats, and thought they ended up looking terrible together. Several of you tried to assure me that they look fine together. I thought, what the hey, I'll give it another shot.

I don't know if it's my OCD kicking in, but it just looks wrong! If you ever find a belt to match these flats, please bring it to my attention. I'd really appreciate it!

Pass It On :: Black Cardigan

I wanted to keep up with Take One, Pass It On even though I was sick yesterday. I also had to get some leopard in my outfit so I could link up with Andi and Brynn for Leopard Print week.

Recently, I went to Gap to return these pants I had ordered online. (They were such a disappointment; I could barely even get them over my ankle! Ultra skinny = ultra skinny.) As I was walking away from the counter, a pair of flats in the sale section caught my eye. They looked exactly like the pair I had ordered a few months ago (but returned because they were in terrible condition, as if they had already been worn for a year). In pristine condition (and at $13) I decided to give them another shot.

It wasn't until this morning when I was on my way out the door that I realized the flats aren't red. They're sweet cranberry. So can we just pretend that the mismatch between the belt and flats isn't noticeable? Otherwise I'm going to go crazy looking for a cranberry belt.

Pass It On :: Cognac Boots

I'm not sure if my boots actually are cognac, but let's just say that they are. These are the boots I was considering wearing on Monday, but I didn't like the way they looked with skirt. I think I was able to make it work this time because the skirt isn't close in color to the boots. (The tights are black this time.) I was inspired by this pin (and Amy's interpretation), but I think my interpretation fell short. Oh well. Since I am participating in Take One, Pass It On, I could just pass on the bottom half of this outfit. Just kidding. Maybe.

Pass It On :: Purple Sweater

Some days are easier than others. That's at least how I'm currently feeling about Take One, Pass It On. I had no trouble putting this outfit together. My sister-in-law gave me both this sweater and sweater topper for Christmas two years ago. They were purchased with the intention of being worn together and I haven't featured them together on the blog yet? Sounds like an outfit that needed to happen.

Pass It On :: Plaid Shirt

Sometimes I wish I had a fancy phone. If I did, I would have instagrammed this outfit last night and then asked you all for what shoes to wear. I put this outfit together this weekend, but didn't bother to think about the shoes. I tried on four pairs this morning, and two pairs of boots. Finally I settled on the leopard flats. It's not my favorite outfit ever, but at least I'm still keeping up with the Take One, Pass It On challenge (hosted by Sarah). Do you have any advice for picking out shoes to wear with tights?

Pass It On :: Black Pants

Do you ever get your mind set on wearing something, and you can't shake it no matter how hard you try? Yesterday, I figured I would pass on my chambray shirt or polka dot cardigan to today. That was at least until last night when I got my mind set on wearing this plaid shirt. Then I got my mind stuck on wearing something colorful with the plaid shirt. I'll admit it, though. I like how this outfit turned out.

(On a side note, can we ignore my hair in these photos? I washed my hair this morning, but within a few hours I got the "I haven't washed my hair in three days" look.)

Pass It On :: Black Vest

Dear Pinterest,
I'm really disappointed with you. I was hoping to find some kind of inspiration for wearing this black vest since you did such a good job yesterday. Unfortunately, all you have to offer me is black vests and stripes, or black vests and plaid. Not cool.

How do you wear puffer vests? Do you stick with layering it over solid colored sweaters, stripes, and/or plaid? Or do you like to mix it up, like I did with the polka dots?

Pass It On :: Tan Sweater

I ordered this vest a couple weeks ago when Old Navy sent me a 40% off e-coupon. And then I wore it to the grocery store that night. And then out to dinner a few nights later. And then the mall a few days later. Even though it's not that warm, I still love it as an additional layer and to make a jeans and sweater outfit less boring.

I think everyone else in the mall had the same idea, because I must have counted at least twenty other people wearing vests. Is this just one of those times when you don't notice something until you start to look for it? I never noticed how many Toyota Rav4's there are out there until my husband and I randomly took one for a test spin a couple of years ago. Now I see them everywhere.

[This outfit was inspired by this pin (created by southernbelle).]

Yes, these jeans are too long for me (as seen here), and so I rolled them up.
It really takes me back. I had a major jean rolling phase.

Pass It On :: Black Flats

Yesterday I learned that the Take One, Pass It On challenge was back for a second round. (You can see my first round here.) Just like Andi, I altered the rules last time. And just like Andi, I'm going to do it for "realsies" this time. I started off with an easy one (black flats). I'd like to say that what I pass on to tomorrow will be better, but it probably won't. I guess you'll just have to stay tuned to find out :o)
