My First Time Wearing Boyfriend Jeans

I bought this top last month when Loft was running a "take an additional 50% off sale items" promotion. It was too cute to pass up, even if it wasn't a perfect fit (it's a petite-- and as far as I know, 5'7" isn't petite?). I've been waiting for the perfect spring day to wear it, but that day has yet to come.

Then again, maybe it has. Maybe a rainy day is the perfect day for parrots.

Top: Loft {option, option}
Blazer: The Limited {similar, option, save}
Jeans: Apt. 9 via Kohl's {exact}
Wedges: Merona via Target {same style, tall option}

I'm honestly not sure if these even qualify as boyfriend jeans. When you've got thighs the size of tree trunks, it's nearly impossible to find jeans that fit in the waist and are relaxed everywhere else. I thought they looked fine, but as I look at these pictures, they just look baggy. I'd love to know what you think of these jeans (fit, style, etc.)!

Do you have boyfriend jeans? How do you style them? I think the most difficult part is deciding what shoe to wear with them. Must they always be worn with heels, or can they be paired with flats?

  1. I think these are the perfect boyfriend jeans. They look like they really fit you nice and don't look sloppy like some do. The parrot top is great and the wedges match perfectly! I think they can definitely be worn with flats too.

    I would love to find a pair of boyfriend jeans to wear, but I have no butt or no hips so I look like I have a pile of poo when I try them on, LOL!

  2. Tree trunks? Really? I don't buy it. Anyway, I agree that boyfriend jeans are tricky, but these ones look nice in the pictures. I have a pair, but I usually wear them in super casual ways, and rarely post those outfits on the blog. Mine are a little too big for me, so I have problems with them falling off!

    And the parrot top is great! I have been striking out at Loft lately. I actually have a gift card that I want to spend, but the last few times I have been in there, I'm not seeing anything that I want.

  3. CUUUUUUTE shirt! I love the bird print!!

  4. This shirt is so cute and looks perfect with those wedges! I don't have any official boyfriend jeans, but I have a looser pair of skinny jeans that I often wear rolled when the weather gets warmer. I usually wear mine with flats. Just try it out and see if it works for you!

  5. ohhh my gosh that parrot top is ADORABLE! I don't think i'd be able to pass it up either haha. And I actually very much like the boyfriend jeans on you. I have a pair I pretty much live in and they're meant to be kinda baggy kinda not. I think you're probably just used to seeing yourself in a more fitted pant which is why you're thinking it looks weird. I like it when bloggers pair it with a blaizer like you did or a fitted cardi because then it gives it some polish and balances out the bagginess. i think you should definitely rock them more often- they look super cute in this outfit!

  6. I just bought a pair of boyfriend jeans as well and I actually wore them today with flats! I think they work with flats but the heels definitely dress them up better. Love your look! I am planning on posting a few pics of them next week so make sure to keep an eye out! :)

  7. Now see I think these look great on you. I'm built similarly to you so you're giving me courage to pull the pair I bought out and take them for a whirl.

  8. I love parrots Kate, that top cant be any cuter. It gives your boyfriend jeans ( which fits you perfectly) that cute and through the blazer that feminine touch :-) Great ensemble :-)

  9. I love that top!!! Suuuper cute parrots. I always like to look in the petite sections even though I'm technically barely past the petite cut off, I can go either way, though petite pants are a NO, and sometimes tops are too short, or the waist sits too high. Most of the time though, they work!

    And as for boyfriend jeans, those look cute on you. I've never had the desire to try to make them work for me, since even on the skinniest of people they still look weird. Oh well!

  10. I feel your pain about tree trunks for legs - though I am sure your legs can be that bad. I not only have tree trunk thighs - I also have ginormous calves. I have the same top and love how cute it is. I have a very similar pair of bf jeans that I love wearing them on the weekends. I love that they are so comfy. I am not sure if there is a difference between baggy & bf jeans.

  11. I think the jeans look good on you, Kate. I always struggle with what to wear for shoes, too...I'm not a heels wearer and so I live in flats. And you're right, they often look weird with flats. Sooo, I stick to my skinny jeans and cuff them if I want that kind of look :)

    Your parrot top is SO CUTE (also, I thought of Carrot Top when I wrote that...ew.). Petites are kind of hit and miss, I think. I certainly can't do pants (I'm 5'8'' but have SUPER long legs...I always need to get a "long" in my pants) in petites, but I have worn some tops and dresses on occasion. Usually they're on super sale, which is my favorite way to buy things :)

  12. This is my favorite outfit of all of yours :)!!!!
    Love it!!!

    Happy Weekend :)

  13. "Thighs like tree trunks". Hahahahaha, oh my heart. Be still. I have found the one who shares in thigh grief. But kudos to you for finding bf jeans that fit like this! I found the same problem you mentioned, that they just wouldn't be relaxed enough in the thigh area until I bought a size so big that it was wayyyy too big in other areas. These look great on you, though! THERE'S HOPE FOR ME!

  14. Ohhh I so wish I could wear Boyfriend Jeans. I never owned a pair though I love how they look. I have no thighs or hips either, even after having a baby (very recently). I think I might give my husband's jeans a try though and see how that works, first. I mentioned that I love this Parrot Top & your Teal Pumps. I also love the Collage you made, what program did you use? Let me know - thanks.
