miss and hit: a JCF mini shopping haul

There's a J. Crew Factory within reasonable driving distance of where I live. This essentially means that I won't go out of my way to go to the store to shop, but I will go there to make returns (of items that I purchased online). Every now and then, I like to buy things online that lie outside of my comfort zone, with high hopes that they will work out.

I initially just wanted this tank, and bought the rest to qualify for free shipping. Ridiculous, I know. Especially because I only ordered it in one size, and it ended up being way too small.

First, the swing tunic

Honestly, I love the color, but hate the fit. I was also unpleasantly surprised by the ribbed sleeves. This one is going back. Easy decision.

The difficult decision lies in whether to keep the pleated ponte dress

My reaction the moment I put it on? Love, love, love it! I've had a blue dress on my wish list for over a year now. Sounds like an easy decision, right? Something is holding me back, but I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's because I saw myself buying a blue sheath dress? But now I'm starting to think this style works better for my body. Ho hum. Decisions, decisions.

Have you been shopping lately? Have you had any hits or misses?

  1. Oh my gosh, I love that dress so much on you. If you get a sheath dress, will it be too dressy? This one lends itself to casual and dressy so easily, which is why it'd be a huge yes for me. Have you tried dressing it up and down just to see?

  2. That dress looks great on you. I haven't brought any new clothes in 3 months.

  3. Actually not ridiculous. I'd rather not pay shipping ever and spend that money on trying things I would like to have if they work out. I'm loving that factory dress on you! I'm glad you decided to keep it.

  4. I agree with you on the fit of that shirt. It's way too big on you. The dress is really pretty though and I can see you wearing it lots of ways!

  7. I actually really like those kind of loose fit sweaters which are made out of some thin cotton fabric. I just got a similar one in light blue. I know this moment when you just want to want ONE thing and then you come up with a million very good exuses to buy just a few other things that you do not want to buy ;)
    Lots of love!

    1. Unfortunately this sweater was a heavier material, and I couldn't imagine wearing it anywhere but around the house. And I can't justify spending $30 on lounge-wear.

  8. I hate when you order online and it's just a no.

I agree that the tunic isn't great, but I really do love the dress!! The fit looks perfect and if you wanted a blue dress.....maybe it's a given?

  9. Try the dress with a different bra. Sounds nuts, but it can make a difference! That might change the fit enough so that you feel it is more flattering.

  10. I actually just went to JCF this afternoon. They're having some crazy good sales right now! I ended up just taking home a red striped tee (for $9!).

  11. I really like that dress on you - it emphasizes your tiny waist, plus this way you can wearing it with or without a belt!

  12. I think the dress looks great on you can so versatile with layering options. I have a J Crew factory store about an hour away from me and I drive out there about once a month for work and make my returns when I am out there. I recently had some items to return and was close to the return time frame so I had to drive out there just for that and I realized after that it would've been cheaper for me to just pay the shipping for the return than spend the time and $$ on gas.

  13. That blue dress looks fantastic on you! ! The color is so vibrant and bright and that fit style is my favorite!! I think you should try styling a few outfits with it to make sure you can get enough use out of it. Can you wear it to work as well as on the weekends?

  14. I'm not sure if you are actually looking for votes, but I say to keep that dress! It looks great and is a perfect color.

  15. I love the dress! I think that style is really flattering, but if you'd rather have a sheath, maybe wait for the perfect thing?

  16. You've GOT to keep the blue dress! That color is gorgeous, and I would wear fit and flare dresses every single day if I had enough.

  17. Definitely get the dress. I just recently purchased a similar dress. I think Cobalt and Fit+Flare Dresses literally would look good on anyone. But yeah that orange top does nothing for your figure - good riddance.
