the back-up plan

I'm one of those people who totes extra things around "just in case". I have a granola bar in my purse or backpack at all times, just in case I get hungry. I have a couple of hair ties around my wrist, just in case one or more of them breaks. And I bring along an extra layer with me if I'm going any place where the a/c may be cranked.

I planned on wearing these pants with my mint gingham shirt, and stowed the sweater in my bag just in case I got cold in the library. On my way to campus, it started to rain. On my way to the library, the rain became a cold rain. Long story short, the sweater came in handy. Do you tote odds and ends along because you might find yourself needing them? Or do you just deal with whatever comes your way?

  2. Love the gingham with navy stripes! And I am definitely the ever prepared Girl Scout! I even have a tiny emergency pack in my purse with a sewing kit, band aids, medicine, etc.

  4. I love this outfit so very much. Stripes, white, cognac accessories. It's perfect. I hoard things in my purses too, especially snacks. I am always afraid I'll get stranded somewhere and have no reinforcements of any sort. In fact, I'm so happy to learn that you do the same thing.

  5. My tote is an endless array of things that I may never need in my life, but you just NEVER KNOW! I carry a small sewing kit, clear nail polish, all kinds of things that add weight and hurt my shoulder. lol. This mens sweater is super cute on you.

  7. I do this too, I'm always carrying around a cardigan or something extra in the summer because you never know. Bonus points that your backup plan looks so great with your outfit!

  8. i love this look, kate! i am especially intrigued by the collar of your button-down not peaking over the collar of the sweater... i am not sure that i have ever worn a button-down like that before but now i want to try it!

  9. good for you to be prepared! I love this outfit and repinned it on Pinterest (I didn't even notice the mint gingham peeking out at the top).

I'm usually over-prepared when I don't need to be, and then under-prepared when something comes up. It's usually because I've recently switched purses, and then that day I end up needing a bandaid or bobby pin.

  10. I'm totally the type that needs to be prepared, too.

You never know what's going to come your way in a day, so it's easier to just keep a big bag and have multiple solutions to problems that MAY come up!

I love the stripes with the white pants!

  11. I really love this combination--both the colors and the stripes + gingham look great together!
I always tell myself that I need to have a back-up snack in my purse for emergencies, but I never seem to remember until it's too late.

  12. I am so guilty of this! My purse is my carry-all and I always have way more in there than I would need, but what if????? :)

  13. I am the EXACT same way!! If you notice in every single outfit post, I'm wearing 2 but usually 3 hairties at all times. Like I'd ever need 3. I used to wear 2 because I'd put my hair in a ponytail before throwing it up in a bun and somehow added a third one to the mix. Besides the typical purse contents (lotion, sanitizer, chapstick, etc), I also never leave without my liter water bottle, a sweater/jacket, my phone charger (in case it dies), a nail kit (in case I break a nail), a snack if I'll be gone long. I'm just like you. I hate feeling unprepared.

Blue and white is one of my favorite color combinations. They just compliment each other so well!
