keep it simple

When I was in grade school, I was introduced to "K.I.S.S.": Keep It Simple, Stupid. I have carried that philosophy with me through the years. It applies to so many different kinds of situations, personal style blog included.

I haven't worn this cardigan in nearly two years, mostly because I thought it was too bold for winter, and that it didn't match with anything other than navy or dark purple (as seen here). (It also bugged me that I couldn't figure out what color this cardigan is. What color would you call it?) Then it hit me. K.I.S.S.! Pair it with something neutral (and given some weight gain, pair it with something comfortable and not form-fitting)! My black dress fit the bill perfectly. I can't believe that at one point this black dress was neglected. It's proven to be an incredibly versatile piece! I added the necklace and belt for interest.

Cardigan: The Limited | similarboyfriend, cable knit
Necklace: ShyBoutique | same style

  1. Love how this all came together! And I really like your cardigan, would it be chartreuse?

  2. The necklace makes this look absolutely perfect. Ties things together so well. Girl, you got it going on. Is it lime? It makes me want some sherbet. And I just ate some ice cream already. And a soft pretzel. What are you doing to me!?

Also, I totally use that acronym with my students! We teach them sentence combining that way. They come up with the most complicated ways to combine sentences and we remind them to keep it simple. Another teacher says it's "kiss ass." Keep it simple, stupid and don't assume. Heh heh.

Looks like you found another color to wear with it, too: pink :)

  4. I don't usually comment, just lurk (is that creepy? Sorry that my laziness gets in the way of comment-leaving!), but I wanted to let you know that I really like how put-together this outfit is. Very nice!

  6. Really love this outfit! Excellent decision in pairing the cardigan and fun necklace with your pretty black dress. Everything just pops in this look!
As for the color, I might call it celery? Or honeydew? Of course I think of all food names...

  12. Maybe call it celery? haha, I feel like colors always have such weird names, so you could honestly get away with calling it whatever you want!

  13. It is Chartreuse or like the inside of a Lime to me. That LBD has such a classic, feminine shape - it must be worn more often. The belt & necklace are the stars of the outfit though and tie together the whole look.

I always keep KISS in mind. Speaking of awesome stuff you think of, I mentioned smth. about you in my post today so check it out now, will you? LOL

    Enjoy your weekend, Kate. =)

  14. Hmm, perhaps you could call the color "highlighter?" Especially since you teach :) Anyway, I love all of the bright colors...so springy!

  15. Oooh, how I love this! I have a lime cardigan like this (and yes, I'd call this lime...although it totally reminds me of a margarita...), and I love wearing it with navy, white, and black. It allows the lime to pop without making it look too colorful bright. I like how you included a little extra color with your necklace and belt, though - it ties it all together.

  16. Love this pairing. Lime and hot pink are two of my favorite colors together! The black is such a great neutral contrast! And, the necklace...I've been eyeing one similar ;)
