green week :: green + white scarf

I went through a ridiculous phase in 6th and 7th grade of wearing button up shirts unbuttoned over t-shirts. I haven't repeated the look since then. However, with all the pins of open chambray looks I encounter on a regular basis (like this one), I decided to give it a shot. After all, it has been over a decade. That should count for something, right? And what better opportunity to wear a casual look than on a day of running errands?!

Do you ever wear a button-up shirt unbuttoned? How do you make the look work?

  1. This is the prefect outfit for errands. I have worn a button up unbutton over a tank top in the winter.

  2. You just described my middle school style to a T. Haha. I think for this reason I don't like wearing my chambray unbuttoned over t-shirts. I always like it on others (you look cute!) but I just feel silly.

  3. I also went through that phase, and I haven't tried it since. I think the scarf helps bring it into current times and not feel too 90s! And I really like the hint of pink!

  4. I haven't tried it since then either, but I love the way it looks on other people. I think you have officially convinced me I need to give it a shot! I like the pink tank peeking out and that scarf is adorable!

  5. i like the way this looks! i've never tried it myself but i especially like the way it looks with a scarf or something else added. with as many button-downs as i own, you'd think i would have exhausted all of the ways to wear them but i may have to try this look!

  6. I wouldn't have questioned the unbuttoned shirt here, because I wear my chambray unbuttoned almost every time! I think part of my reason is just that I'm large in the uhh "chest" area and it just looks weird on my to wear it done up. I think it you look polished and accessorize (aka - like you always do), then it looks great!

  7. I've never tried wearing my chambray top unbuttoned like this, but today I wore my black and white plaid button-up half-buttoned with a black tank underneath. I always enjoy finding new ways to layer, so I'l be trying something like your look soon :)

  8. I used to have two chambray shirts in jr. high/high school that I wore open ALL THE TIME with a white tank top inside. I tried it once awhile back (maybe like a year or two ago?) and it felt all awkward and high-schooly, so I gave up trying to make it work.

I think the way you are wearing it is super cute with the scarf and the pink peeking out, though I'd probably lose the side ponytail that's a bit too 80s (or, maybe it's just the camera angle and it's a normal pony tail with the hair pulled to one side? If so, then carry along)

  9. Oh my gosh I've been thinking about this same thing lately. I've been seeing bloggers and pins wearing button ups open over other shirts and it's so cute, but it feels so 90's! I haven't given it a try yet, but the way you are wearing it here looks great, so you may have just changed my mind!

  10. Oh my gosh, I totally used to wear the open button up with a coordinating tank underneath ALL THE TIME in middle school (I think in like 9th or 10th grade too...). One of my best friends wears her chambray open with a tee or tank underneath quite frequently, and it always looks so cute on her...I'm going to try the look out for myself soon - I have it all planned out and in my "to wear" list :) I really like how it looks on you! :)
