debut: belted box pleat skirt

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many of you were looking forward to seeing me style this skirt when I showed it off in my February budget post. I hope I don't disappoint! (If I do, bear in mind that I have a few more outfits up my sleeve.) I knew I wanted to wear this cardigan and skirt together, and I decided to add the scarf after seeing so many pins of mustard and leopard together (like this pin). Unfortunately, I didn't think far ahead enough, so the decision to wear black tights and black wedges was hastily made. I'm not convinced that it was the right choice. Would brown tights have looked better? What do you think?

  1. YES! Perfect. Nailed it. I prefer the black tights. Of course, I haven't seen the brown tights, but I like the black ones. I also like the picture with flash better, too. I can see detailing clearer. Man, I wish I had gotten this skirt. So dang cute. And the pockets? Oh my.

  2. This looks great! I really like the buttoned-up, tucked-in cardigan here. I think that the black tights look good, but you probably could have gone with brown too.

  5. I think this outfit looks great with the black tights, but I'm sure either would work really well for this look. I love that leopard print scarf!!

  6. I love this look. I think the black on the bottom is perfect (it nicely compliments the gray skirt). My leopard scarf is one of my favorites, but I've never paired it with mustard. Now I have some style inspiration, thanks! :)

  7. Ooh! I really like this look! I think you made the right choice with black tights--brown against the gray might have not worked out so well. I have a mustard cardigan and a leopard scarf, so I might have to copy you on this one!

  9. Ahh Kate!! First of all, I love the mustard yellow cardigan with the leopard (such a classic combo...they were meant to be paired together). Second, that skirt is SOOO cute! Third, I'm glad you stuck with the black tights...I feel like it looks better with the grey (gray?) pleated skirt. :)

  12. I was one of the people who wanted to see the debut of this awesome skirt. I am convinced that Leopard pairs just as well with Mustard as it does with Ketchup (errr... Red! LOL) I like the all black on the bottom, makes your legs look longer.

  14. I like the black better actually! I think brown would have drawn your eyes down to your legs instead of on your pretty scarf! Plus leopard print includes black and brown so you coordinated perfectly! As for the photo, I think I like without the flash better!

  15. KATE, I'm seriously smitten with this outfit! I looove that skirt, and I think the buttoned and tucked cardigan underneath looks so sharp and adorable! I'm definitely pinning this one!

  16. So I'm totally doing some blog reading catch up and I just have to say that the skirt looks great! It definitely fits you really well and I think it is an awesome alternative to a pencil skirt.
