Pinspired: gingham + fuchsia

When I came across this pin recently, I was immediately smitten with Lilly's coat. Rather than getting a case of the ""s, I thought about my closet and realized quickly that while I don't have a pink coat, I have a pink-ish blazer, along with everything else I would need to recreate the outfit.

On an unrelated note, I need a new challenge or theme for February. Any ideas?

Blazer: Gap [last seen here]
Gingham Shirt: Old Navy [similar, option]
Sweater: American Eagle (old, c/o Mom) [option]
Necklace: gift (c/o Mom-in-law) [option]
Pants: The Limited [exact]
Boots: Madden Girl (gift)

  1. Wow, I'd say you did a pretty fantastic job at re-creating that pin! I love the combination of pearls, gingham, and a crisp blazer. I might have to re-create YOUR version!

  2. Ginny of My New Favorite Outfit is hosting a weekly style swap with another blogger. You should send her a message! (I'd TOTALLY do style swap with you one week. For serious.)

I wouldn't be able to layer these items so successfully; I love how they all look together. I end up all lumpy and weird when I try, so I'll live vicariously through you.

  3. This looks great! Nice job making the pin work for you and your closet. I really love this bold blazer.

  4. I'm with danielle^^^, I'm so unsuccessful with layering button ups and sweaters. The pockets on my shirts ruin everything, and then my broad shoulders make me feel like a football player with that much on. I love the pink, blue and pearls together in this outfit though :)

  5. I totally repinned that outfit but to wear with my green coat. I mean, I would like to have a gorgeous pink coat, but I think it will still be cute with the green one!

I'm looking for a new challenge or something, too. I'm finished with 30X30 (just need to catch up on the blog posts), and I don't know what to wear! Right now, I'm excited to wear the things I bought in January, but I know I will be stuck.

I saw someone who had a February challenge that was a different theme for every day. I think Heather from Style Journey is doing it. I thought I might jump in on that. Or like Danielle mentioned - Ginny is doing a new weekly linkup. I probably won't do it every week, but it will be fun to do sometimes!

Let me know if you come across anything or think of something.

  6. i like the idea of doing some kind of challenge or link up in february too. are you interested in doing no longer neglected again? i could always use some encouragement to wear some things that get stuck in the back of my closet. sounds like i should check out the link up ginny is doing that others here mentioned too.

i love all the layering you did here, and that blazer is great! it seems more versatile than an outerwear coat because you can wear it all day rather than taking off a coat and just being left with whatever outfit you have on underneath.

  7. You did a great job in recreating this Pinterest look.

I'm no help on the challenge front because I've never tried one.

On another note, I'm now following you on Pinterest too. I hope you'll follow back :D

  8. Love the colors in this look! That blazer is adorable.

  9. Now I want to re-create this too. The Bright Pink looks so awesome with the Blue Gingham. =)

I think a good theme for February is to wear either Red or Pink (a little or a lot) almost each day, in honor of Valentine's. =)

  10. I love your blog

  11. This turned out awesome! That's why I love Pinterest because it can help you think outside the box and work with what you already own. Love this! I am currently participating in More Modern Modesty's February Challenge. It's easy to get dressed when someone tells you what to wear each day, ha ha!

  12. Such a great blazer and I'm a huge fan of these layers. Cute!

  13. That was a great idea to use the blazer! I love the pink and blue gingham together!

  14. I love how you made this pin work with what you already have in your closet, Kate! To be honest, I actually like your interpretation better than the original - you just look so put together, and the colors all pop together! I love the idea of doing another No Longer Neglected month, as Heidi suggested. I've been thinking about doing a similar challenge myself...
