best month ever

At the end of December, I took a break from blogging so I could take some time to recharge my batteries and get a fresh perspective. Since then, I've been re-evaluating my values, and deliberating over what I want this blog to be. What I have come to realize is that I want to wear what makes me feel good, but I also want to feel good about what I wear. Since adopting this mindset, and committing to it, I have managed to go almost two months without buying anything for myself, with the exception of this top [EDIT] and blazer:

1. The Limited Striped Mixed Media top: originally $40, on sale for $17. [returned]
2. Merona Women's Oxford Blazer: originally $35, on sale for $18.

= $17* $18
*top is in the mail, so if it doesn't work out, total will drop to $0.

This is the least I've spent in a long time, i.e., best month ever.

  1. Yes!! Nice job (and nice top!) I was surprised to see how good it felt to be like, "I don't need to go shopping!"

  2. Way to go! And that is a very nice top! I was over my budget in January, and definitely need to re-evaluate a little bit. I keep thinking I need to clean out my closet and get rid of all the clutter before I can decide to stop buying new things. Because that's SUPER logical.

  4. That's awesome Kate! I love that you are so discipline with your priorities! I know clothes is just clothes and we live in a society that encourages excess living. I am so guilty of it.

  5. How exciting! I am at a point where I really want to cut back on my spending and just reduce to what I really love to wear. I mean I clean out and get rid of clothes all the time, but I almost just want to start over!

  6. So impressive and inspiring! And that top is super remixable- so a great choice! I am doing a similar challenge, only buying one item a month after realizing how much is in my closet...just ridiculous. My first month went ok but it certainly helps to blog about it to stay accountable and get encouragement, right!?

  7. Yay! That's awesome! One month I bought nothing and I felt like I needed to shout it from the rooftops, I felt so good about it!

I'm totally with you - I love blogging clothes because it has helped me with my style, but I never want to become too into clothes or spend to much on clothes (it's just clothes!). Sharing my budget really helps!

  8. Wow! I am super impressed! I am slowly getting to the point where I don't feel like I need to buy things. I need to take a page from your book!

  10. Wow, way to go, Kate! I really love the blazer you got - the piping on it is so dang cute, and I can already picture some of the outfits you might potentially wear with it :)

I'm really hoping that I can have a month like this as well. I am feeling very confident about February, haha. I'm also just feeling a buttload of guild about how much clothing I have. There's no reason I can't be satisfied with what I have right now, right? I love taking on outfit/closet challenges, so I'm thinking about creating one for myself to keep me excited about what I do have.
