Pinspired: vest + scarf

It's that time again-- things are incredibly busy and hectic. That probably means more Pinspired looks (like this one, inspired by this pin (via the daily be)). You understand, right? I have to defend my independent project in front of a committee at the end of the semester, so most of my time will be devoted to that. And lesson plans and grading. Fun stuff.

I didn't mention last time I wore them, but these boots are new, and amazing. I found them on the clearance rack at DSW (I'm guessing it was an online return), and I put them on just for kicks and giggles. They are so comfortable, and I love that they are short. I was really attracted to the motorcycle-style boots when they first appeared this fall, but I was never tempted to purchase a pair, because they're really just not my style. That wasn't the case with these. While they may look silly with these jeans and in this outfit, they make me happy... or at least provide some sunshine in time of despair. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Pinspired: chambray + black

When life gives you a warm front, rejoice.

Recently I came across this pin (via Chic Street Style), and was immediately drawn in by the way the black and chambray looked together. I decided to omit the belt and opt for the gold necklace instead, mostly because I couldn't decide on what color belt to wear and I realized I hadn't yet worn this necklace.

It still boggles my mind sometimes that it took me six months to wear this dress for the first time after I bought it. This is the third time I've worn it this semester. Do you get bored with seeing the same clothes on blogs? Or do you prefer seeing items in heavy rotation?

summer to fall

Remember when I wore a similar version of this outfit earlier in the summer? It was so me; I couldn't not wear it again, especially when we lucky enough to get 60 degree (albeit rainy) weather today! To make it more fall-y, I added the denim jacket, opted for a more fall-ish scarf, and replaced the sandals for flats. For my next trick, I will use this as inspiration for a winter version of this outfit. Wait for it. It will be legendary.

sequins and neutrals

Do you ever go through phases where you love something when you buy it, dislike it for a span of time, and then like it again? I feel like that happens with me and a lot of my clothes, including this sequin top. I thought it was the bee's knees when I bought it, but gave it a token wear each year following. Now I like it again.

I think a similar story could be told for these pants. Even though I wear them quite frequently, I go through waves where I dislike them. Come to think of it, I dislike all of my pants right now. I even dislike pants that I do not own, mostly because they fit terribly. I can't tell you how many pairs of olive pants I have tried on that did not come home with me. (Okay, so I can: these, these, these, these, and these.) I have found a new pair that might work, but I'm debating whether to hold out for a sale. (Gap has online promotions, but of course, the coupon codes aren't valid with these pants. Arg!) Has anything been frustrating you lately?

pantone challenge :: acai

Talk about saving the best for last! Today is the fifth and final day of the Pantone-inspired fall color challenge, and it was the one I was looking forward to most. The biggest challenge for me today was choosing which one of my many acai items to wear. I had a phase where I bought all things purple. Then I stopped once I realized how hard it is to coordinate bottoms with darker purple tops (with the exception of colorful skirts). With what colors do you wear dark purple?

pantone challenge :: carafe

What comes to mind when you hear the word "carafe"? A coffee drink gone horribly wrong.
What comes to mind when you see the color "carafe"? Art class. And every time I mixed too many different paints together-- I always ended up with the same brownish-green glob.

Since nothing in my closet is strictly speaking carafe, I was on the fence as to whether I would go more brown or more olive-green for day 4 of the Pantone-inspired fall color challenge. Given my interpretations of 'carafe' above, I figured I'd scan my Pinterest boards to see if I couldn't be inspired. This pin (original source unknown) caught my eye, so I went to my closet, and grabbed what you see below. (For the purposes of the challenge, I'm dubbing my tights as 'carafe'.)

pantone challenge :: koi

Today is Day 3 of the Pantone-inspired fall color challenge, hosted by Heidi and Marissa. Looking for something "koi" to wear for today made me realize how few things in my closet are orange, and how many are coral. I actually bought a koi skirt earlier in the spring, but every time I tried to create an outfit around it, all I could think about was Halloween. I ended up returning that skirt.

I really don't care for Halloween all that much. Even as a kid I only liked Halloween for the candy, but always felt a great injustice whenever I received "nasty candy". Yeah, I'm talking to you, candy in the black and orange wrappers. You too, gummy eyeballs. Get out of here.

pantone challenge :: turbulence

I was all ready for Day 2 of the Pantone-inspired color challenge, until I realized that "turbulence" is actually shade of grey-blue, not teal (as I had originally perceived). It really boggles my mind sometimes how differently things can appear to us, especially colors. Even if one perceives turbulence as a shade of grey, pinpointing what shade it is presumably varies from person to person. Searching Pinterest for "pantone turbulence" yields images in a wide spectrum of greys. So what is a person to do? Answer: Wear all things grey, and hope for the best. The odds that turbulence appears somewhere in my outfit are in my favor. May the odds be ever in your favor!

pantone challenge :: vivacious

When Heidi announced that she would be co-hosting a Pantone-inspired fall color challenge with Marissa, I'll admit, I had mixed feelings. I was excited because I really enjoy participating in challenges, of any variety. But it also made me roll my eyes. I think the concept of an "in" color is ridiculous. Cobalt, for example, has been the "it" color for the past, what, three years? Is there really ever going to be a time when cobalt isn't "in"? Or when someone will scoff at you for wearing cobalt? "Ohemgee, that is so 2011. And 2012. And 2013." [end rant]

I'm not sure if this dress is "vivacious", but it's probably the most similar in color to whatever "vivacious" is. At this point I don't know if I reach for dresses in the morning because I am partial to them, or because I'm just so mad at all of my pants. I guess this means I need to get some more tights. This outfit was also inspired by this pin (via all things katie marie).
