Pass It On :: Plaid Shirt

Sometimes I wish I had a fancy phone. If I did, I would have instagrammed this outfit last night and then asked you all for what shoes to wear. I put this outfit together this weekend, but didn't bother to think about the shoes. I tried on four pairs this morning, and two pairs of boots. Finally I settled on the leopard flats. It's not my favorite outfit ever, but at least I'm still keeping up with the Take One, Pass It On challenge (hosted by Sarah). Do you have any advice for picking out shoes to wear with tights?

  1. I have the exact same problem with deciding what shoes to wear with tights, especially with a pencil skirt. I probably usually wind up wearing pumps of some sort when I'm wearing a pencil skirt, though that's obviously not always comfy.

  2. I usually have the best luck wearing wedges with pencil skirts and tights. Sometimes the right booties do the trick, too. I find that tall boots with no heel look fine with most skirts except pencil skirts. However, tall boots with a bit of a heel can sometimes befriend the pencil skirt.

  3. I agree... shoes with tights is tough! But you did a great job and you look so cute! We lived in Florida for a few years, so it wasn't an issue, but it's back to being an issue. For me, it's booties and boots. They make the decision easy. With lighter tights, I like pumps. Honestly, when I see tights on others, everything looks fine, I think it's I'm just used to seeing myself in bare legs :)

  4. Tights make shoe choices very tricky! I usually wear pumps or boots, but I almost always feel my outfit would be cuter without tights! I'm still stalling on tights season as much as possible. It's freezing today, so I just wore jeans to work!

  5. I have this same problem with tights! Do you have any cognac boots? Maybe those would look cute with this outfit. Or do you have any grey or taupe booties? I have been wearing my taupe ones with just about every tights outfit lately.

  6. Ooh I love the layers in this outfit. I love that you made plaid work for work - sometimes I struggle with that but I think it all depends on the plaid.

Shoes with tights... I really prefer boots I think. I usually stick to the same color as the tights, but I've been trying to mix it up a little bit. I think your shoes look just fine (leopard does go with everything!), but I would say when it doubt, go with boots!

  7. bah! i have so much trouble with picking shoes for tights...especially dark tights! i seem to go with the safe option of black flats or boots a lot. but maybe i should be throwing leopard print into the mix!

    1. I'm wondering if I should have just gone with black tights and black shoes instead of brown tights. Or maybe it was just the skirt that ended up giving me a world of trouble. bah!

  8. I usually wear tall boots, heels or ankle boots but rarely flats.

  9. I like the flats, I wonder if our like this better with navy tights instead if black? I really like this combo otherwise though :)

    1. Thanks, Ginny! I should have mentioned that the tights are brown, and that's partially why I had such a hard time figuring out which shoes to wear. I considered navy, but thought I had no shoe options if I went that route.

  10. I have been putting off getting a plaid shirt for a couple of years but after looking at your last two posts, I think I'm fooling myself if I don't get one soon. So stinkin' cute.

Also, as you'll see in my latest post, whenever I wear black tights, I usually pair them with black(ish) heels. I don't know, I just like the fluid look of black tights and black shoes. Maybe I'm weird, and I've definitely gotten comments from people at work and stuff about how I look like I'm wearing high heeled black boots up to my thighs, hahaha. But I like it!

  11. I never really considered the shoes with tights problem (probably because I just bought tights for the first time in forever today). I like the suggestions here though!

  12. I usually use tights with boots or booties. If I wear them with flats or heels, I tend to stick to the same color to keep it a clean line. I am just not that adventurous.

  15. I like the leopard print next to the brown tights. I think the pencil skirt is just wanting a heel of some sort. But hey, sometimes we just have to work with what we have, and it still looks cute!

  16. looooove this look, and i am so glad i saw this post the other night because i definitely used you for inspiration getting dressed yesterday when none of the other outfits i picked out worked. that camel. t plaid, and i love it with the navy + camel. the shoes you chose look good to me!

  17. I never know what shoes to wear either! I think the leopard flats were a good choice. Brown is always so hard to match, so I usually just wear black tights with everything.

I really love the plaid and sweater combination, and especially paired with the camel. Stealing this idea for next time!
