sequins and neutrals

Do you ever go through phases where you love something when you buy it, dislike it for a span of time, and then like it again? I feel like that happens with me and a lot of my clothes, including this sequin top. I thought it was the bee's knees when I bought it, but gave it a token wear each year following. Now I like it again.

I think a similar story could be told for these pants. Even though I wear them quite frequently, I go through waves where I dislike them. Come to think of it, I dislike all of my pants right now. I even dislike pants that I do not own, mostly because they fit terribly. I can't tell you how many pairs of olive pants I have tried on that did not come home with me. (Okay, so I can: these, these, these, these, and these.) I have found a new pair that might work, but I'm debating whether to hold out for a sale. (Gap has online promotions, but of course, the coupon codes aren't valid with these pants. Arg!) Has anything been frustrating you lately?

  2. Pants always frustrate me, too! I've also been looking for olive pants with no success. Keep us posted if you find any!

  3. I really like this outfit. You've been rocking this neutral blazer lately and been giving me lots of inspiration on how to style mine. I'll admit pants are really really tricky. The fit has to be just right so it takes a lot of searching.

  4. whenever i see bloggers wear sequined tops my internal voice always starts saying, "you need one, you need one!" and then i wonder how i could pull that off, what would my older adult clients think?! but now you've done it to me again kate, and i feel i need a sequined top! i love it underneath the blazer. ahhh. and don't even talk to me about pants, one reason i wear a skirt everyday is because none of the dress pants i bought a few years ago fit me anymore. it's the worst.

  5. I'm really digging the sequins and neutrals in this outfit!!

I just have a hate/hate relationship with pants, pretty much for as long as I can remember. In college I had 2 pairs of BCBG dress pants that fit amazingly well, but I've since had zero luck with dress pants. Probably because I don't really care that much. Jeans are tricky, too, but I'm figuring out where to shop (Limited!) and what styles fit me best. Of course, if I would actually hit the gym every day, and lose 30lbs, I would have an easier shape to fit... But let's not talk about that!

  6. I am struggling to see how you went through phases not liking these items because they look great on you. That blazer is the perfect fit by the way. I'm such a blazer hoarder. It's becoming a real problem. Anyway, I'm finding that the sizing at stores has become RIDICULOUS. I'm a 4 in one store, a 0 in most stores, and a 2 in some stores. And, in one store alone, I could be two-three different sizes depending on the bottoms. I'm beginning to wonder if it's me and not the stores.

  7. I am really loving this outfit - I love the neutral colors but the unexpected sequins! I have been on a hunt for a pair of olive pants too and have had no luck. I ordered a couple from ON & Gap and they were all horrible on me. I don't think it was meant to be for me.

  8. Kate you are so funny! I go through those phases all too often. I'm so glad you're back in love with this sequin top cause it looks gorgeous on you! You look so pretty girl! I'm totally digging the combo with the beige blazer and black slacks! P.S. I had my "I hate white jeans" phase over the summer. I must've tried over 100 pairs...and not one came home with me. I'm still on the lookout lol. Thanks for the kind words on my post btw;)!

  9. Pants are definitely my enemy, especially dress pants. You look pretty awesome in these pants and the sequined top. That just reminds me that I have one that I loved, hated, and now should see if I still hate it or not :) I love the neutral palette too!

  11. I love your ranting posts haha. First off you look great. Like you though I went through phases where I didn't care for sequined tanks that much, though I own at least 5 of them. I even own the Green Sequined one from Old Navy (1st one linked). Yours is so pretty & neutral and goes with a ton. I am in love with the Olive Green Leopard one from The Limited which you linked.

And girl, just when you are not looking, you will find your perfect Olive Green Pants. I thought I didn;t have any but I found some from Gap from 2 years ago, in one of my closets in US, which of course I had forgotten about LOL.

  14. I have the same top in pink and have only ever paired it with a blazer. How ironic! I need to pull it out again. Love the combo you did :)

  15. Yeah, I kind of hate pants too, but I also don't like wearing dresses and skirts every single day...so I suffer through pants and hope for the best, haha. I really like all the neutrals in this outfit - neutral outfits have been really standing out to me lately, and I like how soft that color looks on you!
