on temperature

When it comes to dressing according to the temperature, what is your method? Do you look at the weather forecast for the day and then dress accordingly? Do you have a set standard, such as "70+ is bare leg weather and anything below is pants weather"?

After seeing that today's high wouldn't peak above 68 degrees, I decided it would be pants or crops weather for me. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of teaching in colored ankle pants, so I opted for the one pair of work-appropriate pants that I had within reach (all my other dress pants are in a storage tub with the rest of my winter clothes).

I was curious as I got dressed whether others operate in a similar way? Does temperature dictate what you wear?

Sleeveless Tie-Front Blouse: The Limited
Blazer: The Limited {similar style, similar style}
(Exact Stretch) Pants: The Limited {same style, other options}
Ona Scrunch Flats: Mossimo via Target

And yes, I do realize that I wore red, white, black, and polka dots again. Total brain fart this morning. And all day long. There's nothing wrong with doing the same theme two (business) days in a row, right?

  1. I would say it definitely does. When I get ready to prepare my outfits for the week the first thing I do is bring up the weather forecast. I will say that I work in a school with AC so I never have to worry about getting too warm. But I keep wearing skirts with bare legs until I can't take the short walk from my car to the building or it just doesn't seem appropriate anymore. Mostly because I can't find tights that work well for me. I could probably keep rambling, but I'll stop now. =)

  4. I check the weather every day, but my response varies a lot based on my mood, and how much I want to wear whatever I was thinking about wearing. For example, this weekend I really wanted to wear my new jeans, so even though it was still warm enough for shorts or a skirt, I wore my jeans. And I liked the idea of being fall-ish, so I wore a sweater that I bought on clearance this summer, because I haven't had a chance to wear it. I'll probably be wearing jeans on 50degree days this fall, but then in the spring, 40 degrees will seem warm enough for skirts w/o tights. There's not a lot of rhyme or reason!

    I'm also terrible about paying attention to the precipitation. I just look at the temp and the pictures, so if it's "mostly cloudy with 80% chance of rain", I just see the cloud picture and think I'm fine. I really need to work on reading the details, so I bring my umbrella!

  5. i have tried to figure this out for myeslf after i've lived in a climate with a real winter for many years now... i think if the high doesn't get past 60 then i usually wear tights, but if not i can stand bare legs as long as it's somewhat sunny. we're entering into the awkward time of the year right now though where mornings are chilly (this morning it was 45) but by afternoon it's pleasantly cool and it could really go either way! anyway, love your cute top + blazer combo, it's one of my faves!

  6. Temperature definitely dictates what I wear! If it is going to be over 80 I never even consider pants, I always go with a skirt or dress.

  7. If it is super hot I try to stick to cooler clothes! I work in a building that is always freezing! So I tend to dress warm.

  8. I do kind of check the weather but it really doesn't fluctuate too much here. I plan my outfit more on my work activity. I do have a job that requires me to drive to see clients. On days that I will be out on the road a lot and it's hot, I make sure I wear something that's comfy to drive in and also in layers to shed them as needed :)

  9. I check the weather daily and STILL struggle to put an outfit together at this time of the year. WHOMP WHOMP.

  10. I live in the city and walk to work so temperatures heavily dictate what I wear. I check the forecast every morning and select an outfit accordingly. I really like your polka dot blouse. I have something similar (in purple) and hadn't thought to pair it with my beige blazer (so I will be pinning this as a reminder to try it). :) Thanks again for linking up with Fashionably Employed. Hope to see you back next week!

  11. Really like the outfit! The red top adds a pop of the colour to the otherwise neutral outfit. I don't usually check the temp. and go more by how I feel in the morning (although I get cold easily).
