lessons learned

I feel like it's safe to say my style has changed dramatically over the past year. No longer do I think I am being stylish by wearing blue jeans and a striped sweater, or a leopard print scarf over a longsleeve black tee. My shopping habits have changed dramatically as well.

I bought this skirt two years ago because "I had to have it". It wasn't a perfect fit, but I figured I would lose the few pounds in no time. I also didn't know at the time that Banana Republic could look up items that were no longer available online and find them in stores across the country. I also didn't think I would ever find a polka dot skirt again. I was so young and naive.

Occasion: Teaching
Tee: The Limited {last seen here}
Necklace: via Amazon {similar}
Belt: came with a Target skirt
Skirt: Banana Republic {option, option}
Wedges: via Payless {similar}

Had I seen this bear dress this time last year, I probably would have splurged and bought it at retail price. Now it's almost 50% off and I am so tempted. Can I get your input? Needless to say, I love bears and I feel like this dress would make me so happy. But $50 is still A LOT for a casual dress. Then again, how likely am I to find a dress in the near future with BEARS on it?! What do you think? Buy it now, wait, or pass altogether?

  2. You look great! The bear dress is fun, with unique pieces like that I try to come up with five different ways I can style it before buying, if you can do that, go for it!

  3. This color combination is great. It's inspiring me for a polka dot skirt I have that looks almost identical!

    As for the dress, it'll go nicely during fall with boots and winter with tights or summer with sandals. You love bears so much; do you have anything else in a similar print? If not, I'd go for it. Once you get it home, see how well it goes for all seasons/with your current wardrobe to make sure it's a keeper. It has pockets, too, so we both know that's a big bonus :)

  5. Great outfit! I should totally style my polka dot skirt with a simple white tee! I'm not gonna lie, that bear dress is cUte! I think that as long as you can think of a few different ways to style it AND a few different places you could wear it, then you should go for it. It may still seem like a bit more $ than you would want to pay for other things, but this isn't just a plain sweater or pair of socks. This is something that would be so uniquely you and make you happy to wear it!

  7. Ooh, tough call on the bear dress. It's really cute, and really unique, so if you love it, you should probably snatch it up! I think I wrote something recently about the scarcity of certain items making them worth more. Good luck deciding!!

  8. I think you should do it. You've been thinking about it for not only a few days but MONTHS. time to have that really fun piece you'll never really get a chance to get again!

  10. The question I always ask myself is: "Will I remember this dress/skirt/etc. for a long time to come and regret it if I don't purchase it?"
    Because sometimes I've said--no, it's too expensive, I won't get it. And months later, when it's nowhere to be found and I'm still dreaming of that dress, I know that the money would have been well-spent! Oh well! We can't always make the right shopping decision.
    That bear print is pretty unique...

  11. Love this skirt! I feel the same way about my clothes! I always ask myself ...If I really want this then I will be thinking about it tomorrow. I try to wait one day! If it is still on my mind, then it is a yes!

  12. The dress is really cute, and so unique! I can't imagine finding something similar, so I would say it's ok to treat yourself! Especially since it seems like you've done such a great job of really thinking about purchases rather than buying something on an impulse.

  13. I wished I was wiser in my shopping ways. I have the same skirt and the polka dot threads were starting to snag and what do I do. I bought a similar one from Target on clearance for when it's time for the BR skirt to retire. I should know better than to buy it for rainy day.

    I think the dress is very fun and if you really like it then go for it! This is not a print you see everywhere and you may regret it when it's no longer available.

  16. I think a Polka Dot Pencil Skirt should be a staple in a woman's closet. I also have a B+W Polka Dot Skirt similar to yours. I never thought about pairing it with a simple White Tee & a Statement Necklace.

    And BUY THE DRESS. I know you love bears so why not. =)
