the perks of playing dress up

Sometimes I get an urge to play dress up. I'll go into my closet, come up with new outfits, and try them on. I take photos, and the ones I like will be stashed into a folder called "outfit ideas" (sub-folder: "me"). My mental energy this week has been focused on school and getting back into the swing of things, which ultimately means that the creative juices haven't been flowing. It's times like these that make me happy that I have these pre-planned outfits. The best part is that I can copy item for item and recreate the look entirely.

Skirt: The Limited {very similaroption}

Have you heard the word? Apparently bubble necklaces are out. I'm not so sure the line has been clearly defined. What do you think? Personally, I'll keep wearing them until the day that my students look at me and scoff in disbelief, "I can't believe she's wearing a bubble necklace. Those are so out of style."

  1. I'm still wearing my bubble necklace too! Who cares if it's in style or not, it still jazzes up outfits and makes them super cute! I love this outfit you're wearing... I actually have been planning a similar outfit in my head. And I too play closet dress up like a little girl :)

  3. Keep wearing it! It's a necklace, how can it be out of style? I can see how it might become less trendy, but I don't think it could be "out." I really like your bright pink skirt. I've already got mine picked out to wear this week!

  7. This is so cute, Kate! I love the color combination, and the lace top looks lovely as well :) Of course the bubble necklace is on its way out...I just got one, hahahaha. To be honest, I've only seen them twice in real life (I thought they were mythical!!), and when I have worn mine, people seem to really like it and think it's different, so I'll for sure keep wearing it!!

  10. I have a blog post draft where I keep outfit ideas, and just break them out by season, and then list the pieces I want to put together. It's really handy for those mornings when I am too tired to think! I always think I should plan my outfits out for each week, but I'm more of a spur of the moment type person.

    Bubble necklaces - they might be out according to fashion bloggers, but I'm just starting to see "real" people wear them, and I still like mine, so I'm going to keep doing it. I don't pretend to be on the cutting edge of trendiness, so I'm sure my readers won't mind. It's actually featured in my post for today!

  15. this is such a perfect outfit! honestly, i think it's a shame that the "word" around the blogosphere is that those necklaces are out and so everyone is going to stop wearing them. i've read that a few times on different blogs. i think you should wear what you want if you enjoy it, it definitely looks great with this outfit!

  16. Thanks for the comment! I love Bubble necklaces! I just moved to Mississippi and no on has ever even seen them here! So when I wear mine, they think I'm some fashion goddess! ;) Mine are bright summer colors, so I'll probably ease up on them once fall hits, just because they won't match my "fall" colors, but not because I think they are "out!"

    Love your blog (New follower)
