Pinspired: stripes + pleats

Today I am linking up with Heather for Pinned it and Did it. I was inspired by this pin (originally seen here). I left the house feeling like I missed the mark because my striped shirt is much for voluminous than Blair's, and because I don't have red shoes. (Thus further justifying the case for these flats?) I was originally planning on wearing teal wedges or purple flats, but my feet refused, hence the sandals. Today comfort trumped style.

Occasion: Office Hours & Attending Class
Top: The Limited {last seen here}
Obi Belt: The Limited {same style}
Skirt: The Limited {option, option}
Sandals: via Payless {option, option}

It's a shame that I don't wear this skirt more often. It is incredibly comfortable. I just have had a hard time coming up with ways to wear it. I wore it once with dark purple (here), but since then I feel like every top is either too dark or too light for this skirt. What do you think? What colors would you pair with this skirt?

  1. Very cute, I like your belt. This is a great skirt. I bet it would look nice with a lot of colors. I first thought of olive (mostly because I'm loving that color right now) or any light colors might work. I planned to wear heels to work today but my feet were not having it.

  3. LOVE the skirt! The Limited always has such great cuts for their skirts. I like it with the stripes. Maybe a plain, light blue oxford or orange (love orange) for fall?

    I keep going back to those same flats! I really need to replace my black pair. But those blue or persimmon ones are calling my name. The teacher next door to my room was wearing blue J.Crew flats, and I wanted to steal them right off of her feet. I have boats and she has dainty feet, so it wouldn't have worked anyway :(

  4. I absolutely adore this outfit, Kate! Each piece - the skirt, shirt, belt, and shoes - are great on their own, and I totally think they work together!! I think this skirt would look lovely with any color, really. Even black or white! I think it would look especially nice with more saturated pastels (if that makes sense) or fall colors like orange, deep red, olive, mustard, plum, etc. Love it!

  6. Really love the belt, and the way you styled the skirt here! Is the color a little different in person? It seems like you could pair with almost any color, but I know the feeling. Sometimes its just the material. Maybe dont over think it and go with a white tee and statement necklace? xx

  7. I love the combination of these two textures/colors, though I think the belt with the lower waistline of the skirt looks kind of odd, and if it were me, I'd forgo the belt next time, or bring the belt lower to cover the waistline. As for what colors to pair with the skirt, I feel like anything would work since it's pretty neutral.

    Every time I scroll down and see the pictures of the bears I think that they're doin it like the discovery channel, but no, one is just standing behind the other. I do a double take EVERY TIME.

  8. I think you did a great job with your recreation and I love this cute obi belt. I bought 2 on clearance from the Limited and have yet to figure out how to use them. Have a great weekend!
