Jamboree

It seems like that "I have nothing to wear!" feeling is something everyone goes through. I honestly can't remember the last time I had that feeling. In fact, lately, all I feel is I have too much to wear.

There are a few things that brought me to this conclusion.
1) It's been a year since I've worn this top last.
2) This top used to be one of my go-to's for teaching.
3) I hosted No Longer Neglected! during March. It's almost the middle of April, and I'm still going strong.

Occasion: Teaching, Attending Class
Top: The Limited (c/o Mom)
Skirt: Merona via Target
Bracelet: Groopdealz
Belt: Apt. 9 via Kohl's
Tights: Apt. 9 via Kohl's
Wedges: Xhiliration via Target

When I have a problem, I like to find a solution. I have come up with a few so far:
1) Get rid of my clothes until I don't have too many.
2) Sell my clothes. Use money for school (since I don't get summer funding this year).
3) Deal with it.

Now, I'm not sure which solution is best (or if there is an even better one out there). Per usual, I come to you, seeking advice. Do you feel, or have you ever felt, like you have too much? I also considered putting together a "shop my closet" section on the blog, but is that of poor form? Have you ever sold any of your clothes over the internet? I'd love to hear about your experience(s)!

The thing is that I really do wear just about everything I own-- the problem is just that it takes so long to make my way through the rotations. What do you think I should do? Any words of wisdom?

[Sorry for getting all serious up in here today. I'll be sure to keep things light tomorrow.]

  1. I can relate to that a little bit. I definitely feel like I have too much to wear sometimes. I'm with you - I wear pretty much everything I own, it just takes a while sometimes to get to it all. I recently decided that I would just have a limited number of hangers in my closet, and I can't buy any more. If I want to add new things in my closet, I have to get rid of other things I don't want or wear. It's helped me to limit my shopping, or at least to be more thoughtful about it.

  2. I completely feel your pain Kate! I have items in my closet that are probably 2 years old and still with tags on it! Personally, I don't want to see it because I would probably end up replacing it with something else. I have tried using Poshmark to see clothes that don't fit anymore so far, I haven't had much success. I think I am better off just donating it and writing it off my taxes. I am interested to see what others suggests.

  3. I can relate to the feeling like having too much. Now that I am switching the summer wardrobe over I feel so overwhelmed! How can I wear all this? My goal is to slowy go through each piece that I put away from winter and new pieces coming in for spring and really assess if I should keep it or get rid of it. We do an annual yard sale, so things I don't keep will go there, some of the nicer brands will go to Plato's Closet or Clothes Mentor, and anything left over gets donated. Several bloggers have done a shop my closet, so I think it's totally ok to do that if you want. I love your color combo today too! Heather

  5. I try to sort through my closet on an ongoing basis and get rid of things that don't fit right, or I just don't wear very often. I've had pretty good luck selling at a local consignment shop, but I'm intrigued by the option of selling online. I just like the ease of selling local, and supporting that store. In my most recent batch, I took a dress that I originally bought in 2007 for $10 and it sold right away. My cut is $8, which means it sold for $20! Which means my cost/wear was basically $1. I say that's a pretty good deal!

  6. First of all, I have that same skirt and I love it! It fits really well and somehow the color goes with everything!

As far as having a lot of clothes goes... it such an overwhelming feeling! I hate feeling like I have so many things and I can't ever wear them. I clean out my closet at least twice a year and donate everything so my closet stays pretty thin. I've thought about trying to sell things, but all my clothes are from Target and Old Navy, so I figure they probably don't have much retail value. I say try to sell it - I've seen a lot of bloggers use Poshmark and I think it seems like a great idea!

  7. Kate I FEEL YOU. I have had the I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR FEELING happen to me several times but I have no clue why since I have too much to wear and because that way it becomes hard to choose, that's where the first feeling comes from. In Summer of 2011 I did a major cleaning up of my closet and got rid of about 40-50 of what I owned which was a ton since I had 2 full walk-in closets & 4 dressers full of stuff. I still own a ton and only about 30% of my clothes is here in Europe. I cannot wait till I get to USA to be able to wear a bunch of my clothes.

I say GO FOR IT about adding a Shop My Closet to your blog. Many bloggers do it and I am thinking about doing it too. I own mostly mall clothes but good brands nevertheless. I have taken some stuff at Plato's but they give you very little and are so picky. If you do a Shop My Closet though, I think you should be realistic about the prices. I hate when bloggers charge you anywhere from 15 to 40 bucks on a used item of clothing. I am sorry but with sales and coupons I can pay that if not less at the actual store for brand-new. More bigger name bloggers do this and I find it kind of ridiculous. I am a very savvy buyer myself and I cannot justify paying 15 bucks for a used tank even if it may be JCrew or Banana Republic.

I will check out Poshmark that Ashley suggested.

  8. i feel like i have too much every time i struggle to fit something else in my closet, find a spare hanger, or my laundry basket is overfilling. for a while i never wanted to get rid of anything... it felt kind of like a failure to donate something, like, I SHOULD BE WEARING THAT! lately, i've gotten better about selecting items that i rarely wear and trying my hand at selling them on ebay so i can get a few dollars back and get the item out of my house. but then i tend to fill that space with something else, and the cycle continues, but oh well... what can you do?! :)

i love the cobalt blue + magenta together, i will need to replicate this soon!
